Motel 6’s Commercial Won the Listeners Choice Award and GEICO’s Commercial Won the Media Choice Award

NEW YORK, NY, February 6, 2018 – The Philadelphia Eagles were not the only champions this year. Westwood One, the largest radio network in the U.S., has announced Motel 6 and GEICO are the winners of the 2018 Westwood One Sports Sound Awards, a consumer and industry contest that celebrates creative excellence and highlights the power of sonic branding. In its fifth year, the Westwood One Sports Sound Awards ranked the most engaging audio commercials airing during Westwood One’s Super Bowl LII broadcast, which aired on February 4, 2018.

Motel 6 won the Listeners Choice Award, its third win in five years. The hotel chain, famous for their “we’ll leave the light on for you” tagline, created a commercial called “Slam Poetry.” During the spot, Motel 6 official spokesman Tom Bodett promotes the motel chain in rhyme culminating with an impressive mic drop. A panel of industry experts crowned GEICO the winner of the Media Choice Award. The GEICO commercial, titled “Beatboxing” offers a vocal percussion calling for clean-up on aisle 14, after a customer drops a jar of pickles. Known for showcasing what’s surprising, GEICO points out that beatboxing at a Big Box store isn’t the typical announcement style. Listen here.

The Westwood One Sports Sound Awards was comprised of almost 50 commercials, with 25.5 million Americans listening to Westwood One’s Super Bowl coverage on AM/FM Radio, Sirius XM and digital platforms.
