Consumer Contest Highlights How Sound Design is More Important than Ever to Build Brands and Drive Sales

NEW YORK, January 31, 2018 — For the fifth consecutive year, the Westwood One Sports Sound Awards will rank the most creative national audio commercials airing during Westwood One’s exclusive Super Bowl LII broadcast. Westwood One, America’s largest radio network and the exclusive network radio partner for the National Football League, salutes excellence in audio creative by showcasing the best radio commercials within the biggest sporting and advertising event of the year, the Super Bowl.

A large social, digital, and broadcast marketing campaign is sending listeners and a panel of advertising professionals to to vote for their favorite ads. Voting is open NOW and runs through Monday, February 5th, 2018 with the big winner revealed Tuesday, February 6th.

Listeners can listen and vote on nearly 50 commercials. The goal of the contest is not only to entertain but to also highlight the power of sonic branding to capture consumer attention and convey brand attributes.

The 2018 Westwood One Sports Sound Awards winner will join a formidable group of past champions. Motel 6 landed the top spot in 2017. The hotel chain, famous for their “we’ll leave the light on for you” tagline, created a humorous commercial where their official spokesman, Tom Bodett, tries to incorporate millennial lingo to promote Motel 6. In the infamous words of Tom Bodett, the ad truly was “on fleek.”

Westwood One will broadcast national play-by-play coverage of Super Bowl LII live from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sunday, February 4, 2018. This is the 31st consecutive year and the 45th time overall Westwood One will broadcast the Super Bowl. The broadcast crew includes Kevin Harlan, Boomer Esiason, Mike Holmgren, Tony Boselli, Ed Werder, Jim Gray, and Scott Graham, with contributions from Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald, and Hall of Famer Kurt Warner. Sir Rosevelt, the southern pop collaboration of Zac Brown, Niko Moon, and Ben Simonetti, will open Westwood One’s Super Sunday broadcast with a customized version of their hit song, “The Bravest.”
