Westwood One’s official GRAMMYs programming lineup reached millions of people on-air, online, and at live events
NEW YORK, January 29, 2018 — Westwood One, the largest radio network in the U.S., and official radio broadcast partner of the Recording Academy and Music’s Biggest Night® has just wrapped up a larger-than-life programming lineup in celebration of the GRAMMYs 60th anniversary that reached millions of people on-air, online, and at live events.
“Westwood One’s partnership with the Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Awards spans across two decades, and we were so excited to welcome the Recording Academy and the GRAMMYs 60th Anniversary Awards back to our hometown NYC,” said Suzanne Grimes, EVP Corporate Marketing, Cumulus Media and President, Westwood One. “Our #1 goal is to engage and entertain our listeners across the country, so this year we created a month-long programming line-up that brought the GRAMMYs to life — everything from a chance to win a trip to NYC to attend the Awards, three format-specific GRAMMY Nomination specials, red carpet reports from the hottest and most exclusive events, and for the first time this year, we produced 15 live musical performances during the week leading up to Music’s Biggest Night®.”
“We set out to create a very special suite of content this year in honor of the GRAMMYs celebrating, honoring, and sustaining music’s past, present, and future for 60 years,” said Mike McVay, Executive Vice President, Content & Programming Cumulus Media and Westwood One. “The fact the show returned to New York City for the first time since 2003 inspired Westwood One to produce a week-long live music performance series hosted by NYC radio stations 95.5 WPLJ and NASH FM 94.7, which ended up being full of surprises and special moments. This is the power of radio and the power of music in action.”
Here is a breakdown of the action, which was dedicated to music fans and listeners across the country.
The celebration kicked off with Westwood One’s two-hour GRAMMYs® 60th Anniversary Nomination Special, which aired January 20th and 21st. Top 40/Rhythmic, Hot AC, and AC versions were hosted by Jayde Donovan from Todd & Jayde Mornings on WPLJ-FM/New York and the Urban/Urban AC version was hosted by La Loca from WNBM-FM/New York.
Building on the GRAMMY theme of “long live music,” Westwood One created a series of special live performances featuring GRAMMY nominees Kelly Clarkson and Midland, plus Jessie Chris, Lauren Alaina, PJ Morton, MAX, Marshmello, Logan Henderson, Shane Owens, Bleachers, Cody Simpson, Troye Sivan, LAUV, Dan + Shay, and Daniel Caesar!
The star-power continued on-air, as Westwood One also hosted a full slate of GRAMMY week interviews with Fall Out Boy, Walk the Moon, Andy Grammer, JJ Hairston, Sting, Anthony Hamilton & Hamiltones, Latroit, James Bay, Calum Scott, Travis Greene, Migos, The Walls Group, Tina Campbell, Lisa Loeb, Ashley Campbell, Bebe Rexha, Maren Morris, Brothers Osborne, Diane Warren, The Baylor Project, Nothing More, Adventure Club, and The Stereotypes.
