NEW YORK, NY – May 10, 2017 – Westwood One is celebrating the 30th anniversary of U2’s timeless fifth album, The Joshua Tree, by presenting U2: The Joshua Tree Special, a two-hour program airing this weekend, May 13 and 14, on more than 100 radio stations. This special will air on legendary stations like KLOS-FM/Los Angeles, WLUP-FM/Chicago, KFOG-FM/San Francisco, WROR-FM/Boston, KSHE-FM/St. Louis, WIYY-FM/Baltimore, and KQRS/Milwaukee. This exclusive musical event is presented by Farmers Insurance®.
Matt Pinfield, renowned KFOG/San Francisco morning man and host of the nationally-syndicated 2Hours with Matt Pinfield, interviewed U2’s Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen, Jr. for the special. The inspirations and stories behind these classic songs and the band’s first experiences playing them live are among many intimate and exclusive insights from the band that fans will hear regarding the writing, recording, and reissue of this landmark album and the upcoming Joshua Tree Tour.
Pinfield, also the former host of 120 Minutes on MTV, has a long and unique history with U2. “It was really great to catch up with Bono, The Edge, Larry, and Adam again,” he said. “It was amazing to discuss everything surrounding The Joshua Tree with the guys. Over the course of our 30+ year friendship, I’ve seen them live many times and I think fans are in for something special on this 30th-anniversary tour. It will be magical.”

U2 continues to be one of the biggest and best-selling acts of all time. More than one million Joshua Tree Tour tickets were sold within the first 24 hours on sale. Each night, U2 will play the album in full, including the first live performances of the song “Red Hill Mining Town.” The band will stop in North America and Europe and headline the Bonnaroo Music Festival in June. Noel Gallagher is opening shows for the European dates. US opening acts include Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, and OneRepublic.
The Joshua Tree sold more than 35 million copies and won the band “Album of The Year” and “Best Rock Performance” at the 1987 GRAMMY Awards — the first of what has become a record-breaking run of GRAMMY wins. It catapulted U2 to one of the most legendary bands in the world. The album features hit singles, “With or Without You,” “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” and “Where The Streets Have No Name.”
