Fans Have Access to 101 Primetime and Sunday Afternoon NFL Games—More than Ever Before
New York, NY – September 2, 2014– Westwood One, the exclusive network radio partner of the National Football League, kicks off opening night of the 2014 primetime NFL season on Thursday, September 4, 2014, at 8:00 pm ET as the Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks host the Green Bay Packers. Kevin Harlan and Boomer Esiason will provide play-by-play and analysis and Jim Gray hosts the pregame and halftime show. This will be the fifth consecutive season that Kevin Harlan and Boomer Esiason serve as the lead broadcast crew for Westwood One’s NFL’s coverage and Esiason’s 15th season overall with the network.
Westwood One is also pleased to announce the addition of four-time Pro Bowler, two-time NFL MVP, and Super Bowl XXXIV MVP Kurt Warner to its all-star broadcast lineup. Warner will work alongside Kevin Harlan as a Monday Night game analyst, alternating weeks with Boomer Esiason throughout the regular season. In addition, he will contribute weekly to the Thursday Night Football pregame show as well as to the pregame show for Super Bowl XLIX in Arizona. Warner is also currently an analyst with NFL Network and part of the network’s NFL GameDay Morning pregame show on Sunday mornings.
Warner played 12 seasons in the NFL, leading two different franchises to Super Bowl appearances. As the ringleader of what became known as the “Greatest Show on Turf,” Warner guided the St. Louis Rams to numerous offensive records, including most points scored in a season, and two Super Bowls, including a victory in Super Bowl XXXIV. He also led the Arizona Cardinals to Super Bowl XLIII. Arguably at his best in the postseason, Warner set several NFL career postseason records; including passing yards per game, career completion percentage, and yards per attempt. Owner of the top three passing performances in Super Bowl history (414, 377, and 365 yards), Warner has the second-most career Super Bowl passing yards with 1,156.
Warner’s off-field accolades include the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, The Bart Starr Award, The Good Guy Award from the Pro Football Writers Association, USA WEEKEND’s Most Caring Athlete, ABC World News Person of the Week, Forbes Magazine’s America’s Most-Liked Sports Figure, and Sports Illustrated’s Best Role Model.
"I love being in the studio for NFL Network on Sunday mornings but I am really excited for the opportunity to be at the stadium in the broadcast booth calling games for Westwood One," said Warner. "It's the closest I can be to actually playing the game and now I can have the best of both worlds."
Howard Deneroff, EVP/Executive Producer. Westwood One Sports, said "To be able to add a player and person of Kurt Warner's caliber is really exciting for us. His work ethic and dedication, along with his insight and football acumen, will no doubt make him as successful in the booth as he was on the field."
Westwood One Sports will broadcast complete coverage of 55 national regular season matchups, plus every postseason game, including the AFC and NFC Championship Games and Super Bowl XLIX at University of Phoenix Stadium on Sunday, February 1, 2015. Westwood One will also air a Sunday afternoon doubleheader during the regular season.
Additionally, on Sunday, October 26th, Westwood One Sports will broadcast the International Series game between the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons. The matchup will air in a special broadcast window–at 9:00 am ET–and serve as a lead-in to the Sunday afternoon doubleheader and Sunday Night Football, marking an unprecedented quadrupleheader of NFL action.
Westwood One’s NFL broadcasts can be heard on nearly 500 radio stations nationwide, as well as on SiriusXM satellite radio, NFL.com/Audiopass, and NFL Mobile from Verizon.
