Legendary NFL Quarterback Will Continue to Engage Fans with "Under Center with McNabb & Malone"
NEW YORK, NY, March 31, 2014 – WestwoodOne and NBC Sports Radio announced today that former NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb (@DonovanJMcNabb) has extended his partnership with the networks and will continue to co-host the successful Under Center with McNabb & Malone with on-air partner Mark Malone (@malonesmic). Under Center with McNabb & Malone, airing Monday-Friday 3-7 pm ET, has attracted sports fans in droves, and has already broken into the Talkers Magazine Top 100 Sports Talk Shows in the Nation.
"Donovan's growth in his first year as a sports talk show host has been phenomenal," said Jack Silver, NBC Sports Radio Program Director. "His total sports knowledge and his NFL player experiences provide a unique perspective that few radio hosts can bring to the table. Under Center with McNabb & Malone is a cutting-edge show and we are excited to move the chains forward with our two quarterbacks directing the offense."
"I am very excited to continue my relationship with NBC Sports Radio and with my partner, Mark Malone," said McNabb. "We have a special show and a bright future on Westwood One."
Under Center with McNabb & Malone is an all-sports show that leverages the individual viewpoints of two former NFL quarterbacks, both of whom have also played multiple sports at high levels and can break down the daily headlines–from on-the-field competition to locker room dynamics. Under Center with McNabb & Malone captivates listeners with engaging and entertaining sports talk enhanced by personal stories and experience, plus candid opinions and observations.
As a player, Donovan McNabb posted one of the best records in the NFL, averaging 10 wins per season over his 13-year career. With McNabb under center, the Eagles went to the postseason eight times, won the NFC East Division five times, played in five NFC Championship Games, and had their first Super Bowl berth in 24 years. His 4,746 pass attempts, 2,801 completions, 32,873 passing yards, and 216 TD passes are franchise records. On September 19, 2013, the Philadelphia Eagles retired McNabb's #5. McNabb is also a former Syracuse University football standout and basketball player.
Mark Malone, analyst for WestwoodOne Sports' Sunday afternoon NFL package, also hosts NFL Insider each week. Malone, an All-American quarterback at Arizona State and first-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers, played for 10 years in the NFL, quarterbacking the Steelers to the 1984 AFC Championship Game. He is also known for the decade he spent with ESPN, where, in addition to hosting NFL programming, he also covered NASCAR, GOLF, the NHL, boxing and the NBA.
Rob Simmelkjaer, SVP, NBC Sports Ventures, said, "We are thrilled that Donovan will continue to be a cornerstone of our network as we work with our partners at WestwoodOne and Cumulus to continue the growth of NBC Sports Radio."
