"I was raised in a Bronx public housing project, but studied at two of the nation's finest universities." (:09)
Princeton and Yale. And after that, an attorney, prosecutor and judge for 18 years at higher and higher levels until now President Obama has nominated Sonia Sotomayor to be the the third woman and first Hispanic on the United States Supreme Court.

"Its a career that has given her not only a sweeping overview of the American judicial system, but a practical understanding of how the law works in the everyday lives of the American people." (:11)
She must be confirmed, and in all likelihood will be by the United States Senate.

((( SPOT )))
Judge Sotomayor has done a lot and said a lot over these years. There will be thorough confirmation hearings for Judge Sotomayor by the Senate Judiciary Committee, looking at all she's said and done. Republicans will of course want to ask about some of those things.
SOT: Senator John Cornyn, Republican of Texas
"Obviously Judge Sotomayor has a long career in the judiciary, 18 years, so its going to take us some time to read her opinions and speeches and other writings to determine her qualifications." (:13)
Republican committee Member Senator John Cornyn of Texas Having said that though.
SOT: Senator John Cornyn, Republican of Texas
"I think it says a lot about what a great country we live in, that someone who has come from such a humble background and origins, has now risen to the top of the legal profession and now is being nominated to the United States Supreme Court." (:13)
