OF4-06/13/07 9:25 AM FAKE CAKES FOR REAL BRIDES AND GROOMS.

They say you can't have your cake and eat it too. That's certainly true of some of the wedding cakes from Kimberly Aya's Fun Cakes in Grandville, Michigan. They're quite beautiful to look at, but also quite inedible. They are, in fact, "fake cakes."

SOT - Kimberly Aya, owner of Fun Cakes

"The difference in the fake cake is that I didn't have to cook the cake. I didn't have to level it. I didn't have to fill it. I didn't have to make sure it was sturdy. I'm using styro-foam, it's sturdy, it's level and it'll be perfect."

Kimberly Aya makes and sells real cakes including real wedding cakes as well as the fake ones at her place. She makes but doesn't sell the fake ones. If you want one, you rent it. Which she says a lot of people are doing.

SOT - Kimberly Aya

"The people are thrilled, because now we have no concerns with outdoor weddings, humidity, with bugs. It can stay on display all day long. The little cousin who sticks his finger in it won't ruin it. So it's a better alternative than a real cake."

How about that tradition of the slice of the wedding cake shared by the bride and groom? Well, there's a secret pot in the styrofoam where a real slice of cake is hidden for that purpose.

And besides, they usually wheel the cake away at that point, to be cut up and served on plates. The cake served in this case is an already cut-up sheet cake.

Fun Cakes charges a hundred dollars for the fake wedding cake.

SOT - Kimberly Aya

"Well, I would say that an average price of a cake is from 600 dollars and up. So I'm saving them 500 dollars right there."

I guess brides aren't as sentimental as they used to be. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. and after a lovely ceremony, a wedding cake that's completely phony.

SOT - Kimberly Aya

"I presented it to every bride that I have met with, and they all want the fake cake versus the real cake."
