OF4-2/27/07 9:25AM RESTARAUNTS ENCOURAGE EXTREME EATING
Michael Jacobson of the Center for Science in the Public Interest thinks that extreme EATING is getting out of hand at some of the nation's big food chains.
"Bacon cheeseburger pizzas, buffalo chicken stuffed quesadillas and other hybrid horribles that are seemingly designed to cause obesity and heart attacks with a single meal." Michael Jacobson, Center for Science in the Public Interest.
He thinks the fat, caloric, and other bad news should have to put right on the menu. The story after this for ONSTAR from GM.
Why are Americans suffering from obesity? Maybe it's something we ATE says Michael Jacobson.
"Two thirds of adults are overweight, roughly one third are obese. People scratch their heads and wonder why. And we said maybe restaurant foods have something to do with this." said Jacobson.
Would people eat the Pizza Skins appetizer at UNOS if they realized it contains a whole DAYS worth of calories?
"This has got over 2000 calories. This order of pizza skins has as much fat and calories as three pizza hut pepperoni personal pan pizzas plus three pats of butter." said Jacobson.
Jacobson thinks maybe they wouldn't if the bad news was up there on the menu board. Of course they would says Richard Johnson of Ruby Tuesdays.
"Nutrition information has been on packaged foods in grocery stores for years and during those years the rate of obesity in this country hasn't gone down its in fact gone up." said Richard Johnson, Ruby Tuesday's.
Some complain it's just the food police trying to tell us what we can and can't EAT! Not so says Michael Jacobson
"The food police are not going take this away from you. You can eat this. The restaurants have every right to make these foods and you have every right to eat them." said Jacobson.
