Notre Dame is the most-storied program in college football. The Fighting Irish
boast an unmatched record of success, history and tradition. The program is
unsurpassed with its 11 National Championships, 7 Heisman Trophy winners, 178
All-Americans, 40 College and 10 Professional Football Hall-of-Famers, 5
Hall-of-Fame coaches and one of the highest winning percentages of any NCAA
Division I football team. Notre Dame is the only program with national television
and radio broadcast coverage of every game. The Fighting Irish have developed a
national following that spans generations. The 2006 season will mark the 39th
consecutive year that Westwood One will broadcast complete play-by-play coverage
of every Fighting Irish Game.
Don Criqui- Play-by-Play
Don Criqui's many broadcast credits include NCAA and NBA Basketball, fourteen
Orange Bowls, Notre Dame football for Westwood One from 1974-1976, PGA and
LPGA golf, the Olympic games, track and field, swimming, auto racing and
gymnastics. In addition, he has hosted "This Week in the NHL" on Westwood
One from 1998-2002. Criqui also serves as play-by-play announcer for the
NFL on CBS Television. Criqui received critical acclaim for his work on NBC
and CBS Sports' coverage of the NFL, and in 2003, was presented with the
highest award for a broadcaster when he received the Pete Rozelle Award at
the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Criqui is also widely known
for his insight and humor during over 25 years as a contributor on Westwood
One's Imus in The Morning and for more than 30 years, has served as one of
the six regional heads of the Heisman Trophy committee.
Allen Pinkett - Color Commentary
Allen Pinkett, a former All-American Notre Dame running back, returns to the
Westwood One Notre Dame broadcast booth, providing his sixth season of color
commentary. Pinkett draws upon his more than a decade of experience on the
field at Notre Dame and in the NFL to offer insight to listeners across the
nation. Pinkett was a two-time All-American during his four years at Notre
Dame, leaving the school as the all-time leader in career yards, attempts
and 100-yard games. After being selected during the third round of the NFL
draft, Pinkett enjoyed a productive seven-year career with the Houston Oilers
and the New Orleans Saints.
Jeff Jeffers
Jeff Jeffers contributes to the pre-game, halftime and post game shows alongside Don Criqui for Westwood One's Notre Dame broadcasts.
Jeffers has covered Notre Dame sports for over three decades, broadcasting more than 1,000 Notre Dame games, meets and matches. He currently hosts Countdown to Kickoff, a Notre Dame football pre-game show, with a guest list that has included former President Gerald R. Ford, Regis Philbin, and Larry King to name a few. Jeffers also hosts the nationally syndicated Notre Dame Coaches show, in addition to hosting a two-hour call in show before every Notre Dame football game. In June of 2006, Jeffers was honored by the Notre Dame Monogram Club when he was awarded an honorary monogram, which is one of the highest honors presented by the University. He was recognized for his long-time coverage of Irish athletics and contributions to Notre Dame.
Jeffers was named "Top Sportscaster" in the Northern-Southern Michigan area five out of the last six years, and is also the winner of five Associated Press awards for excellence in sports broadcasting. He is also listed in Who's Who in American Entertainment Broadcasting. Jeffers serves as the local Sports Director for WNDU-TV and Anchor for the early and late editions of NewsCenter 16, both in Michiana, Indiana.
An accomplished sportswriter, Jeffers is the author of Rally! The 12 Greatest Comebacks in Notre Dame History, which was published in 1981. He is the voice of several Notre Dame football highlight videos, including Return to Glory, which chronicles Tyrone Willingham's first season at Notre Dame.
Jeffers graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1977. He currently lives in Indiana with his wife Leslie and their four children.
