Network to Present Hole-by-Hole Coverage from the 2015 PGA Championship and Beyond
NEW YORK, NY, August 6, 2015 –For the first time in a decade, Westwood One is proud to announce the return of live hole-by-hole coverage of the PGA Championship via a multiyear deal that will engage golf fans and listeners for years to come. Westwood One will also provide shortform updates and a nightly recap show, The PGA Championship Tonight.
In collaboration with SiriusXM Radio, live broadcast coverage from the 2015 PGA Championship begins on Thursday, August 13, 2015, and will run through Sunday, August 16, 2015. This year’s Championship will be played at Whistling Straits Golf Course in Kohler, Wisconsin. Coverage can be heard on Westwood One Sports affiliates, WestwoodOneSports.com, and SiriusXM Radio.
“Westwood One is proud to present the 2015 PGA Championship,” said Bruce Gilbert, SVP, Sports for Westwood One and Cumulus. “It’s a very exciting time in professional golf with so many terrific stories this year. Our team is prepared and excited to describe the remarkable performance of the world’s best players live from the PGA Championship for the next few years.”
Veteran broadcaster Earl Forcey will anchor the joint coverage from the 18th Tower. Forcey is best known as host of SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio. The lead analyst will be former pro golfer, current Golf Channel host, and new PGA member Charlie Rymer. He has also been lead analyst on Westwood One’s coverage of The Masters for the past seven years. Calling the action from the course will be 1992 PGA Rookie of the Year Mark Carnevale, former PGA Tour players Dennis Paulson and Carl Paulson, and 1979 British Ladies Open Champion Maureen Madill.
Westwood One sportscaster Ted Emrich will anchor shortform reports from the course and provide leaderboard updates during the longform coverage. The nightly recap, The PGA Championship Tonight, will be anchored by Brad Heller and feature play-by-play highlights, one-on-one interviews with the golfers, and analysis from the Westwood One/SiriusXM crews.
“Westwood One and SiriusXM Radio are synonymous with live, major sports event broadcasting,” said PGA of America Chief Commercial Officer Jeff Price. “The PGA of America is delighted that we will partner with these two world-class radio partners to bring the drama and excitement of the PGA Championship to fans.”
Westwood One Sports will also provide PGA Championship coverage in 2016 from Baltusrol Country Club in Springfield, New Jersey and, in 2017, from the Quail Hollow Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
