Network to Offer Special Pre-Show and Red Carpet Coverage

LAS VEGAS and NEW YORK, NY, May 17, 2016 — California pop trio Bahari will provide an exclusive performance during Westwood One Backstage at the Billboard Music Awards. This special backstage performance will be part of a showcase of brand activations and backstage audio and video coverage leading up to 2016 Billboard Music Awards. Westwood One Backstage at the Billboard Music Awards will host a radio row and produce exclusive red carpet and post-show coverage. The 2016 Billboard Music Awards, hosted by Ludacris and Ciara, will be beamed live from the T-Mobile Arena on Sunday, May 22 at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on ABC.

On Saturday, May 21, Westwood One Backstage at the Billboard Music Awards will host an active Radio Row from 12 noon–4 pm PT in the Live Lucky Lounge of T-Mobile Arena. The event will feature 20+ radio stations from across the country, Westwood One national shows The Adam Bomb Show and Zach Sang Show, and a branded photo fun booth sponsored by Mars/M&M’s Crispy.

Following Radio Row, pop trio Bahari – featuring vocalist/bassist Natalia Panzarella, vocalist/keyboardist Ruby Carr, and vocalist/guitarist Sidney Sartini -- will entertain with an intimate backstage performance. With collective influences that span singer-songwriter folk and classic rock to contemporary pop, the members of Bahari have created a radiant, harmony-rich, brightly melodic sound. The songs range from the upbeat, clap-happy pop of “Dancing On the Sun” and “Summer Forever,” to the neo-psychedelic rock stylings of “Altar of the Sun,” to the spare, moody ballad, and first single “Wild Ones.” Their Dancing on the Sun EP was just released to great reviews. Bahari, which means “ocean” in Swahili, starts touring with Selena Gomez on June 17.

On Sunday, May 22, Westwood One Backstage will present five hours of special Billboard Music Awards programming for nearly 100 stations nationwide, starting with a pre-show red carpet broadcast from 7–8 pm ET, hosted by Kerri Kasem and featuring Ralphie Aversa in the Fan Zone.

Westwood One/Cumulus is syndicating two companion programs for the 2016 BBMAs to 75 Cumulus stations – an AC version hosted by Westwood One personality Adam Bomb with co-host Kristin Klingshirn and a Top 40 version with the Zach Sang Show team.

This past weekend, Westwood One presented a two-hour Billboard Music Awards Nomination Special which featured singer Charlie Puth hosting the Top 40 version and Kerri Kasem hosting the AC version.

Westwood One Backstage is Westwood One’s umbrella platform for the company’s exclusive behind-the-scenes coverage of year-round entertainment award shows. Westwood One Backstage brings red carpet moments to life, offering broadcast partners and advertisers with access to live broadcasts, exclusive content, celebrities, backstage performances, social media buzz, and parties and events.

About The 2016 Billboard Music Awards
The 2016 Billboard Music Awards -- hosted by BBMA vet Ludacris and first-time host Ciara and produced by dick clark productions -- air live at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Sunday, May 22. In addition to Dion, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, Justin Bieber, P!nk, Rihanna, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, and Meghan Trainor will all perform, with more performers to be announced.

Billboard Music Awards finalists are based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital songs sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music. These measurements are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound. The awards are based on the reporting period of tracking dates March 23, 2015 through March 17, 2016 and Billboard chart dates April 11, 2015 through April 2, 2016. Since 1940, the Billboard charts have been the go-to guide for ranking the popularity of songs and albums, and are the ultimate measure of a musician’s success.
